Yield: Good for 3 People (3 servings)
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup (Our 1 Cup = 240 ML) Basmati Rice
- 1/2 Cup (Our 1 Cup = 240 ML) Urad Black split Lentil (Urad Chilka Dal)
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 2 Pinch Asafoetida
- 1/2 Tbsp Oil or Pure Ghee (Desi Ghee)
- 1/4 Tsp Red Chili POwder
- 1/4 Tsp Cumin Seed
- 4 Pinch Garam Masala
- 2 Cup (Our 1 Cup = 240 ML) Water
Method:
Wash the Black Lentil & Rice together in a bowl. Rinse the water you used to wash them. Now add enough water to soak for about 15 minute. Basmati Rice gives its best when cooked after soaking. The end result is bigger rice pieces and better aroma.
Heat Oil/Ghee in a pressure cooker on medium flame. Add Asafoetida & Cumin Seed for roasting. Roast for 30 seconds.
After 30 seconds, add Salt, Red chili powder & Garam Masala. Stir it well to mix all spices in Oil. This will give a nice texture to Rice.
Add rice & lentil mixture to the pressure cooker. Please remember that you don’t need to rinse the water that you soaked your rice and dal in. This water is required and should be added to cooker along with rice and dal. Keep the Stove on high flame. Mix well.
Cover the lid of the pressure cooker. After 1 whistle, keep the stove on low flame for about 5 minutes and then switch it off.
Do not open the lid of the pressure cooker till it has steam/pressure in it. This will help to cook pulav completely. You can test the steam by raising the whistle blower of the cooker. If it whistles when raised, cooker still has steam in it else you can open the lid. Once all the steam has vanished, open the cooker. Your Black Dal Pulav are ready to serve! Enjoy them with raita or Green Coriander chutney. |
